In 2007, Google entered the Affiliate Marketing industry with the buyout of Doubleclick Performics and has since re-branded and emerged in the Affiliate Marketing scene with some 900 publishers. The Google Affiliate Network (www.google.com/ads/affiliatenetwork) nicely compliments Google's adwords/adsense format and offers their many advertisers and publishers an additional option with performance based marketing. However considering Google's broad reach, their Affiliate Network has not made as much as an impact in the industry as one might have expected. Perhaps this is because of Google's late emergence in the industry and the fact that their extremely successful cost per click model (adwords/adsense) may overshadow and payout higher then the performance based, cost per action model of Affiliate Marketing. *Note: In April of 2013 the Google Affiliate Network was discontinued.
