Affiliate Networks, also called Performance Based Advertising Networks, are Web Advertising platforms that connect eCommerce Merchants (web advertisers) and Affiliates (web publishers). For Affiliates, Affiliate Networks provide an ideal solution for finding multiple Affiliate Programs to promote from a single interface, and for Merchants, a platform to establish their Affiliate Programs and reach a large base of Affiliates. Affiliate Networks provide the tracking technology, reporting tools, and Affiliate pay-out processing necessary for effective Affiliate Program Management. Affiliate Networks are most often free for Affiliates to join, but usually charge Advertisers an initiation fee along and recurring monthly service fees and/or commission splits for sales generated. Many Affiliate Networks offer different levels of service from self service to a fully managed service and these can vary significantly in price from one network to the other. Affiliate Networks are similar to Ad Serving Networks but differ in that payouts are based on a CPA (cost per action) model (sale or lead) rather than on a cost per click (CPC) or per view basis (CPM). Additionally, Affiliate Networks typically give publishers more flexibility in where and how they can promote offers, then do more traditional CPC and CPM Advertising Networks. Hundreds of Affiliate Networks have come and gone in recent years. Listed below for user reviews and comparison are most of the more well known and most widely used Affiliate Program Networks in the industry. Listed in a separate Mobile Marketing category are Mobile Affiliate Networks, geared specifically for mobile device traffic.
